Artist Statement
I am a San Francisco-based ceramic artist, drawing inspiration from the complex forms and beauty found in nature. Compositions, hues, and textures found in the wild influence my pieces, and l am interested in how nature becomes evermore intricate the deeper one looks, even on a microscopic level. By working in clay, I create art from earth, my muse, with the added bonus that the material allows me to easily mold, impress and carve it before turning it into stone via fire.
I usually work from sketches, images, and collected samples from hikes around the world. I enjoy constantly experimenting with new ways of using clay, often throwing, coiling, slabbing, and pinching depending on the piece. While my early works in a series are carefully planned, I later allow the process to become more intuitive, responding to the physical qualities of the clay as the work evolves.
My work is exhibited and sold through galleries, museums, and design spaces throughout the Bay Area. I aim to encourage close observation and curiosity, inviting viewers to engage more deeply with the natural world.
