Artist Statement

Visual perception of reality appears as a tightly strung veil that struggles to contain its energy and thrust. Like a plastic shopping bag, it appears thin in places, barely containing the force within it.

My landscapes, with their extreme linear framework and heightened color, create tension like a balloon being blown up and about to pop. In my abstract works, selected parts of reality are rearranged according to their own logic. Their energy leaks through as their true nature comes into being and balance is achieved.

In this way, the two seemingly opposed approaches share the same process.
