Artist Statement

My work centers on wheel-thrown functional pottery designed for everyday use. Each piece begins on the wheel, where form, balance, and proportion establish a quiet structure. I then layer in hand-carved textures, allowing surface pattern to emerge through repetition, rhythm, and small variations.

Texture plays a central role in my practice. Carving creates subtle shifts of light and shadow, inviting touch and encouraging a tactile connection between the user and the object. These marks are intentionally imperfect, reflecting the human hand and the slow, attentive process behind each piece.

Function guides every decision I make—from the curve of a rim to the weight of a mug in the hand. I am interested in how pottery becomes part of daily rituals, accumulating meaning through use. Glaze choices are restrained, chosen to complement form and texture rather than overpower them, and to enhance durability and longevity.

Ultimately, my goal is to create thoughtfully made objects that balance utility and expression - pieces that feel grounded, comfortable, and quietly distinctive, offering a moment of connection in everyday life.
