Stephanie Hilton
Artist Statement
Stephanie Hiltons' love for watercolor painting was born many years ago after seeing a Maurice Prendergast and Winslow Homer exhibit at the MET. Besides more traditional watercolor painting, her current process is an interesting one in that she creates colorful and fun woven watercolor panels by weaving separate paintings together as one. These are then carefully sealed and mounted into box frames, a nod to a childhood love of dioramas.
Her love for Maine, the Connecticut shoreline, and warm weather spots like the Florida Keys and Aruba always find their way into her work. Stephanie paints and creates for pure joy, her love of color, nature, and the tactile experience she has while weaving the paper. She enjoys watching people admire her work, as they look closely, trying to figure out how it's done, and usually smiling as they do!
