Artist Statement

I am a traditional oil painter working from direct observation as well as digital photography. Currently I have been working on a series of small still life paintings set outdoors or on a windowsill with a view to the outdoors. In my work I strive to capture the fleeting effects of sunlight and shadow, highlights and reflections and the ever-changing quality of light throughout the day and the time of the year. It is the impossibility of capturing the momentary effects that fuels my passion for painting.
