Catherine Sherman
Artist Statement
Stitched materials hold many mysteries and making is an aggressive act of transformation. I build quilts to connect color and pattern across period and place, to play a never ending game of matchmaking while assembling new worlds, and to be reminded that anything is possible.
Materials in my work are gathered over time from wide ranging places and always, always SCRAP, the creative reuse center in San Francisco founded by Ruth Asawa and Anne-Marie Thielen.
