Donna Kaye
Artist Statement
In my view, a painting that is evocative is most successful. Before embarking on a painting I consider how to best express the desired mood through color, value and stroke. While I intend for some pieces to stand as a social or political statement, much of my work is just a nod to the breadth and beauty of what a person might see during a walk or drive--the small stories and dramas of people we encounter along our way, the serenity or excitement of the terrains and landscapes of our planet, and the urban/suburban environments we encounter every day. I find that the act of painting itself--the complete immersion and absorption that it commands-- is therapeutic, like a form of meditation. Painting has offered me serenity through some difficult moments. I tend to lose track of time, and have been known to paint into the wee hours.
