Artist Statement

My work consists of paintings that explore the depth and complexity of emotion, while investigating idealistic visions. Through abstraction, I am able to use symbols in conjunction with shapes and colors that align with thoughts and emotions. I’m interested in how my feelings produce work naturally and how I can make even the darkest ones hold some semblance of beauty. The themes I return to through working with emotions are memories, healing, and identity. I like to consider how are these themes work together in a way that makes up who I am and how I see myself. My process follows a largely intuitive path. I get meditative and therapeutic through my work and aim to move my brush to feelings. I begin by visualizing and journaling my intention for a piece; whether opening up the past, present, or future. I am drawn most to oil paint for its fluidity and expressiveness. I hope that the work invites viewers to reflect on their inner self as they see mine displayed and come to learn something a bit deeper about how they relate to the world or themselves.
