Artist Statement
Photographer, Photographic Art, Photojournalism, Sailing & Yacht Racing Photography...
Celebrating 55+ years as a professional photographer and sailor, I have now chosen to spend my retirement photographing what keeps me active and that which I enjoy most.
My images, produced from my archives and recent photographs, using both traditional film and digital cameras, captured on land and on the water, with the waters of the Great Lakes as the base upon which the recorded images and events unfold. Most on the water images, are taken from my own photographic chase boat, including those of sail or power boats, yacht races, freighters, tug boats, lighthouses and many other on the water vessels and events.
We live in a beautiful water world here in Michigan and yet see very little of that world presented on the news, in media or in the galleries visited around the state.
Many of the images I produce are straight up color or black and white photographs on different mediums, framed or unframed. Other images are produced from a base photograph, then through a timely sequence of editing and processed through a computer to achieve the finished piece that I find exciting or visually entertaining to the eye. I then chose a print maker or currently, a canvas maker in India who produces my images with the brightest, deepest, richest colors that are true to my original computer image.
