Suzanne Comer
Artist Statement
My photographic work focuses mainly on the beauty of nature, from which I find endless inspiration. Photographing mostly outdoors allows me the opportunity to immerse myself in the regenerative process of the natural environment.
I normally view my photographs as materials to utilize in creating a piece of art, not a final result. After acquiring a digital camera in 2002, I began exploring combining sections of my photos to create constructed pieces of art, known as photomontages.
I approach creating a new piece as I would a painting, assembling elements from a palette consisting of selections of my of photos, each holding a personal memory. The entire process evolves from creative intuition, synthesizing my experiences and reflecting them in an artistic venue. My work is personal, yet mindful of reaching out to the viewer to stimulate within them their own interpretation and feelings. Therefore, in full circle, creating new personal meanings.
My photography-based creative work has been juried into over 80 local and national juried exhibitions, featured in 20 magazines and two hardbound art books.
