Paulo Correa-Meyer

Artist Statement

Paulo Corrêa-Meyer is an emerging digital artist who lives and works in Wayne, Pennsylvania. A native of Porto Alegre, Brazil, he creates art that reflects what is going on around him, choosing designs and colors to convey his feelings at the time. From abstracts to natural forms, his bold compositions are an emotional expression that he hopes evoke feelings in all who view his work.

As an adolescent, Corrêa-Meyer was first drawn to poetry as a means of communicating his moods and mindsets. He would eventually publish two books of poems in his native Portuguese language (and is currently collecting material for a third).

Corrêa-Meyer was educated to become a physician and began practicing Ophthalmology in Brazil. Then, in 1980, he moved his young family to the United States and established a solo practice. During the two years that it would take for the revalidation of his medical license to practice in the US, he attended a semester at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. That led him to experiment with oil paint and printer's rolls as he created art on canvas. The resulting works showed multiple serendipitous effects that were elicited by his poetic thinking while painting. The images captured the movement, the rhythm, the energy, and the colors of his native country.

Following his retirement in 2020, Corrêa-Meyer searched for a medium that would provide more flexibility with form, movement, and color and allow him to craft images that evoke an immediate reaction. Although he uses his art to chronicle current events, he likes to interject humor when it is appropriate. He settled on digital art as his means of self-expression and, along with his poetry, Corrêa-Meyer creates moments that tell his story and share his experiences.
