Laura Abrams
Artist Statement
As an art historian with many years in the performing arts, I have traveled the world through great works of art. Dance, music and theater motifs often surface in my art. I return time and again to natural landscapes, the rhythms of jazz, creatures of the sea, and colorful flowers and leaves. I enjoy working on a small scale, influenced by an early fascination with miniatures and beads. I am inspired by folk art, especially quilts, stained glass, and mosaics. Hence, my work follows a design aesthetic of piecing and placing shapes and colors together like multi leveled puzzle pieces.
