Artist Statement

I work in a realistic and representational style, but my aim is to illuminate rather than merely replicate my subjects, bringing out nuances of meaning that may not be visible in a photograph. I especially enjoy creating human and pet portraits and still lifes in graphite, pastel, and oils. Watching an image develop under my fingers—creating the illusion of three dimensions on a flat surface—is a magical experience. And I think we all need more magic in our lives.
