Artist Statement

Hello, I?m Charles G. Tatum jr. I am a focused autodidact African American Artist. I create Art that flows from Our African consciousness. God has blessed me with the dexterity to translate visual sensations into astonishing paper illustrations with Pen & Ink, Pastel, colored pencils to express distinctive themes with subtle messages. It is important to create art that uplifts the viewer. I try to capture the essence of life in a way that is fresh and unique (in) our past and everyday experiences, celebrating and honoring it. I believe I was born an Artist and have always had a need for expressing myself with pictures. I?m also humbled by the creative process and how it offers me the chance to connect to something bigger than myself. I realized that I could escape into Art as well as express what I felt in my SOUL...
I craft inventive compositions that are said to, excite the eye, rivet the mind, capture the heart, and shock the SOUL...
My mission is to inspire others to remember our past, as it is the foundation for our future. I have created over 270 Pen and ink drWings with one pen and ink on canvas. I?ve also created a greeting card company ?soulxpresshuns? , will be launching by the 11/1/2021.
