Cindy Morawski:
Artist's Statement
I take artistic and spiritual inspiration from the natural world and then try to place it in a window for my viewer to appreciate. I want the viewer to feel as though they are standing where I am and looking out, appreciating the scene and feeling awe in the goodness and beauty that nature provides. I get inspiration for my pastel landscape paintings from nature through camping, hiking, and photography. I grew up on a farm in Western Pennsylvania so I was surrounded by seasonal changes in the landscapes. By being a part of that, I grew to love the land and animals and all that it had to offer.
A Chinese saying describes design experience: 'First you see the hills in the painting, then you see the painting in the hills.' I'm looking for an entry point in my landscape. I'm also hoping that my voice and interpretation will resonate with my viewers because of my use of light and shadow, values, and choice of colors. I consider it an honor to paint the outdoors. In our hectic, stressful world, I want to emphasize the positive alternative of the natural world. I believe it is a connection that is beneficial to all living things.
