Artist Statement

Rust has always been aesthetically pleasing to me and has influenced my recent body of work. I am drawn to its velvety earthy colors and nuanced complex surfaces. My compositions have strong architectural elements: structured, controlled, with bold geometric designs that coexist with the organic surface of the rust. The frequent use of grids and patterns resonate with me as they mirror my inherent desire for order and predictability. The most exciting and challenging aspect of working with this medium is letting go of intentionality; as the metal oxidizes and the deeply textured surface transforms and evolves. Creating this work has allowed me to embrace the beauty of imperfection.
