Artist Statement

I am a classically trained oil painter focusing on landscapes, interiors and still life. I prefer to work from life whether it be out painting on location in the elements or in the comfort of the studio. I have found that there is a different feeling to my work when painting from observation, one that cannot be matched with photo references alone. Usually my paintings are done over multiple sessions allowing me to adjust and edit information until it all pulls together into a realistic impression of light, color and form. I strive to have my work appear abstract when viewed up close and to magically become a realistic image when viewed from a few feet away. It is this process of starting out with a blank canvas and watching the image emerge that excites me to paint.
