Gail Morrison
Artist Statement
I am captivated by printmaking, bewitched by etching: the complexity of process; the history invoked by the smell of the ink; the endless combinations and variations of techniques that don't always produce quite the result you think they will; the luscious paper and the embossment made by the plate as the paper and ink are melded into one; the stately progression of steps to a traditional etching; the thrill of turning the wheel of the press, folding back the blankets, and gently lifting the paper to see what has appeared.
I am honored to explore and practice the traditions of fine art printmaking - its history, and quiet emotional involvement and intimate connection with the viewer.
