Paul Reiber
Artist Statement
I am a wood carver and sculptor. I like to make objects of beauty and grace that speaks to the human heart and soul about our relationship each other, the earth and all living things.
The primary vehicle of expression in my recent work is the human figure in relationship to plants or animals and the narrative and symbolic possibilities of those relationships. This work explores a range of emotions including contemplation, sadness, anger and exhaustion.
I see the primary function of my art as bringing reminders into daily life of the sacredness of the world in which we live. The forms I work with are those that evoke the world of myth, spirit and ritual
The process of carving for me is an exploration. The wells of my emotional energy that are touched by the image inspire my work and push me to explore their content more deeply. The work is my spiritual practice and my place of learning sharing and teaching.
