Artist Statement
My art is a visual chronicle of my life over the past several years. Sometimes it tells a story (e.g. when birds and fish show up). Other times it's my emotional response to what's happening in my life at the time--the pandemic, processing grief of the loss of loved ones, visiting beautiful spots in nature, the joy of Spring arriving again.
Art is how I discover deeper places within myself and as a result I am able to connect better with others. It helped me balance my many years as a psychotherapist by continuing to renew my sense of curiosity, playfulness and inner joy that is available no matter what happens. Like life, my art is full of mistakes, re-dos and happy accidents that reinforce the continual, boundless surprise of creativity.
I love color and mark-making and use acrylics, collage, oil sticks and ordinary tools like screwdrivers, sanders, combs, old credit cards and bubble wrap to create textures and experiment with color.
