Stacey Gregory
Artist Statement
Stacey Gregory is a multimedia artist exploring social and political issues that are on the verge of paradigm shifts in this era of volatility and divisiveness. By using recycled or repurposed materials in many of her interactive assemblages, she invites the viewer to be hands-on, thus becoming complicit in the issue and exacting a visceral response. She addresses issues such as social class hierarchies, the #metoo movement, climate change, women's reproductive rights, pop culture idolatry, and the effects of technological advances using timelines, classical painting techniques, scientific and historical references, and when appropriate, a dash of humor. Her aim is to promote empathy, understanding, awareness, and maybe just a little panic that will ultimately lead all of us to positive action and progress in this crucial time for our country's future.
