Artist Statement

The figure lies at the heart of all my artwork. Drawing is its foundation. Working quickly and spontaneously allows me to imbue breath and energy. Whenever possible I prefer the direct interaction of working from life. My work focuses on people in their cultural settings and animals in nature, where I feel a strong sense of connection. Animals resonate deeply and their wisdom speaks to me. Women are often a strong theme. In terms of materials, I work with oils, acrylics, pastels, or a simple china marker. Recently, I've been experimenting with working on cardboard in a sculptural direction.
