Artist Statement

Almost 60 years ago, my neighbors decided to have an arts and craft fair to raise money to buy a fire truck and build a firehouse. I naturally hung some art in our first Kings Mountain Art Fair in an old barn on Skyline. Thanks to the volunteers of this amazing community, we have come a long, long way since then. Living here in the redwoods above the ocean has been the inspiration for my paintings. I was always sketching in pencil and painting in oil when I was a small child; I was fascinated with the paintings of the European masters, and studied their fine detail and their use of oil paint to capture light on the canvas. I am “self-taught”, but have always learned directly from observation and experimentation. I have painted in Hawaii, the Southwest, the Sierra’s, and wherever I travel, but I am best known for painting the light in the redwood forest here at home. I look forward every year to seeing old friends and meeting new visitors to the Fair. I will be showing original oils and giclée prints on canvas.
