Nancy Campbell
Artist Statement
My artistic practice has been primarily focused on painting the landscape. My favorite subjects are places most familiar to me, whether the woodlands and valleys of New York State's Catskill mountains, the hills of the Italian region of Lazio, near Rome, where I've guided workshops for many years, or my backyard in various seasons. I try to capture a moment in time, usually moved by a how certain light can transform an "ordinary " scene. I'm particularly taken by winter and its snow, and its brilliant and often transformative effects in sunlight, moonlight, or even streetlight. My artist heroes, among others, include Lois Dodd, Fairfield Porter, Neil Welliver and the Canadian Group of Seven.
