Artist Statement

I create visual parodies and abstract ideas in multimedia formats, using my art practice to translate my ideas into paintings. The world of nature inspires me. It is enjoyable to punctuate commonalities between the natural and designed world, inserting whimsy to punctuate my work and forge a connection with the observer. Topics inform my choice of media, starting with an idea, subject or feeling, moving onto composition, color, material, and texture. I primarily paint in acrylics often using oils, inks, pastels, and paper. I research my subject and use the tactile act of creation to define my ideas by using artistic problem solving, visual journalism, fantasy, symbolism, and the human condition. When people view my work, I would like them to see my intention to connect individuals to the whole of humanity and physically represent the precious nature of the world. And Color!
