Margaret Esme Simon
Artist Statement
Born in Albany, Margaret Esme’ has painted most of her life. Her foundational training started at the High School of Music and Art. She went on to Cornell University and Columbia University where she earned a Masters in Architecture. Her education and travel inform her diverse portfolio, which includes still lifes, portraits and landscapes.
She paints under the name “Esmé” and her work has been featured in approximately 80 group exhibitions nationwide, earning her accolades in both oil and pastel. A hallmark in her painting life was her selection as one of ten artists for the inaugural Masters Art Show at the Rowayton Arts Center. Her reach is international; while her pieces reside in many private American collections, she is also represented in the Copelouzos Family Art Museum in Athens, Greece, and the Seven Bridges Foundation in Connecticut.
From a National League of American Pen Women’s Biennial show to her recent solo exhibition at the Cos Cob Library, Esmé’s work fits firmly in the world of contemporary realism.
