Artist Statement
I have been a working artist for over 30 years, receiving my masters from NYU and the International Center of Photography in 1992. I have used fiber papers, pastels, paint and photo transfers, I reveal the layers and complexities of the body, mind and spirit. Recently, I began to incorperate plexiglass and dura-lar as well as sheer fibers to further the explore the nature of inside and out. Whatever the medium, my work explores how art has the power to connect, to create meaning, and to tell a story. There are elements of both fragility and strength which reflects the human condition in all of its imperfections. There can be a reflective quality, talking about reflection and connection. The repetition of silhouettes represent the idea of connection, to self, to other, to past and to future. They are the links in the chains of heredity and carry with them the memories of history with the potential of hope. My goal is to redefine expectations, to communicate on a deep and meaningful level, and ultimately to show how art has the ability to heal.
