Artist Statement

Hello, nice to meet you! My name is Yateesha and I would like to tell you more about my work and that what fascinates me.

My practice explores the space between inner experience and external perception. I am interested in how we experience, interpret and translate the world around us, and in the gaps that emerge between what is sensed, what is measured and what is ultimately perceived.

Working across drawing, moving image, installation, textiles, generative processes and experimental technologies, I often create systems in which an outcome is partly beyond my control. Data, materials, algorithms and physical forces become collaborators in the making process. I am drawn to moments where structure and unpredictability meet, allowing something personal to become unfamiliar.

My work often begins with a question, an observation or an experiment rather than a predetermined visual outcome. I move between analogue and digital methods, combining intuitive gestures with systems, measurements and processes. Through this, I investigate how intangible experiences can take on a physical or visual form.

At the centre of my practice is a curiosity about perception: how something can be translated, distorted or transformed through different mediums, and how every translation inevitably changes what came before. Rather than seeking a single or objective representation, I am interested in the space between versions of an experience, where ambiguity, chance and interpretation become part of the work.
