Artist Statement

TRUST THE WATER
Jeanne Maguire Thieme
In my water media paintings I trust the water. I let it go, watch it mix with paint and flow around dry areas on the paper. This process creates abstract patterns which I use in my compositions. This slow, methodical flow of paint and water can produce the softest light for which my work is known. Water media painting teaches me patience and pushes me beyond comfort and routine. Taking advantage of these painting surprises keeps me and my work fresh and exciting. Adding acrylics to this process has also become a welcome addition to my work.

I paint my passions. Hiking, farm life, exploring our delicate environment on horseback ~ all diving boards into my work. As an active member of a land trust I see the encroachment of “progress” on our lands and wildlife. If my work can remind us of the beauty and importance of protecting what we love I will be comforted that I have been a part of a solution.

Thieme is a signature member of the New England Watercolor Society, Vermont Watercolor Society, New Hampshire Art Association and The Academic Artists Association. She is an award winner and past member of The Salmagundi Club in New York City and has memberships in numerous art associations.
