Janis Howes
Artist Statement
Much of my work follows the tradition of natural science illustration, capturing the details of flora and fauna with a focus on the intricacies of my bird, botanical and animal subjects. I work in colored pencil much of the time and also in watercolor, gouache, pen & ink and graphite. I am drawn to subjects that fascinate me with their beauty, color, and unique stories behind the image. I find that every subject from nature - whether it is a creature, a plant or a landscape - holds it's own story that I try to discover when I create a piece of art from observing it. I hope to inspire you to look closely and rediscover the stillness and harmony found in nature.
