Artist Statement

I am a nature and wildlife photographer. I create fine art prints that capture both the grandeur and intimate moments found in the diverse ecosystems of our natural world. My work has resonated strongly with collectors throughout the Bay Area, particularly my signature pieces featuring local wildlife and landscapes from the Santa Cruz Mountains and the California coastline.

Since 2021, I have developed a successful presence at Bay Area and Central Coast art fairs, presenting gallery-quality prints that invite viewers to experience deeper connections with the natural world. My professional display, featuring white mesh walls and carefully curated lighting, creates an immersive viewing experience that honors both the artistic and educational aspects of my work.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Through my lens, I create portals to experience our natural world - inviting viewers to feel the crisp Alaskan air surrounding perched eagles, sense the rhythmic pulse of surf orchestrating the Sanderlings' dance, or share in a Resplendent Quetzal's quiet triumph feeding its young. These images transcend mere documentation, forging intimate bridges between viewer and subject that speak to both the grandeur of vast landscapes and the delicate intricacies of wildlife behavior.

My work originates from the California's Central Coast, from the fog-wrapped cliffs of San Mateo to the rugged grandeur of Big Sur. My expeditions have expanded my portfolio further afield, to include the stark majesty of Death Valley, the mist-shrouded forests of Panama, and Alaska's dramatic Kenai Fjords. In 2026 I am eager to show my new images from South Africa and Brazil. I like to think my photographs serve as both celebration and warning - documenting nature's remarkable resilience while highlighting what we stand to lose to climate change and habitat loss.

My journey with photography began in Canada's Jasper National Park, where as a teenager, I captured my first panoramic mountain vista. That single image has adorned my wall for over four decades, a constant reminder of nature's power to transform and inspire. Today, after retiring from a career in software, I dedicate myself full-time to creating images that foster awareness and inspire conservation of our irreplaceable ecosystems.

TECHNICAL PROCESS

My images are captured using Canon mirrorless professional cameras and lenses. I employ both traditional and innovative techniques, such as slower shutter speeds to reveal the full motion of hummingbird wings or extended exposures to capture the drama of changing light on landscapes.

I compose, capture, and process all images myself. To produce my physical product, I trust the printing to the experts at Bay Photo, a local lab and the best in the country, I prefer vibrant, durable metal prints using dye-sublimation on ChromaLux aluminum panels. I also offer archival prints on paper, which I mat and frame using commercially available supplies.
