Artist Statement

In depicting life frankly and critically in both its visual surfaces and interior aspects, I strive to reach toward the realms of history and social commentary. My motto is that art ought to be from life, and above life. To merely document surfaces is not enough: I want to grasp what is behind, which to me is far more compelling and worthwhile. I have exhibited in several national competitions and my work is collected in the US, Canada and China. I have been working on an Apocalypse Series starting when the US was poised to invade Iraq. My growing up in the repressive Communist China also formed the foundation of my world view and my works reflect that aspects as well.
