Artist Statement

Technology has blurred the line between realism and manufactured reality. While most photographers spend more time in front of a monitor than behind their camera, I prefer instead to put all of my effort into my images before the shutter is released. This starts with a comprehensive knowledge gained by researching my subjects, a well honed understanding of light, an inordinate amount of patience and the endless pursuit of light chasing to capture each image in its raw glory.

Raised on film, I learned about the unique characteristics and vivid colours that could be obtained from the various emulsions, that I continue to work almost exclusively in silver as opposed to silicon. The vibrant hues in my pieces are a hallmark of my work and a testament to the unparalleled gamut and dynamic range of the medium.

I travel the globe capturing images seldom seen; images that evoke a connection or emotional response with the viewer. I am not content to make photographs that become anonymous on the wall.
