Todd Arnold
Artist Statement
Growing up in the seventies, artist Todd Arnold developed a love for Mid-century modern and Atomic art, even though it was declining in popularity at the time. Recalling unique sculptural wall hangings constructed with various materials such as wood, textiles, resin, and gravel elements, he appreciated the similarities shared by Atomic designs and Polynesian motifs reflected in the geometric, yet organic elements of Tiki.
With the renewed, continuing popularity of Mid-century Modern and Tiki culture, Todd is inspired to create artwork that blends Mid-century Modern, Atomic, and Tiki elements, drawing from Polynesian and Atomic designs without direct reproduction. His artistic journey is a mix of personal creativity, historical inspiration, and love for nostalgia to create unique artworks that reflect a Tiki-inspired, Mid-century Modern look with the goal of having a viewer ask, “Is it new or vintage?”
