Artist Statement

For the past six years, my work has centered on realistic depictions of animals, often placed in humorous and unexpected situations. I have always been interested in using animals as a way to communicate ideas in an approachable way inviting viewers to laugh, relax, question, and find their own meaning within the work. This approach led to Carrusel, an exhibition I presented at the University of Texas at El Paso in collaboration with another artist. While her work explored more melancholic emotions, mine offered a lighter perspective, creating a contrast between humor and sadness.

Although animals remain at the center of my practice, my work has gradually developed into something more spiritual, reflective, and universal. I am interested in creating images that can reach the viewer emotionally while still maintaining the realism and attention to detail that define my paintings. My intention to teach and communicate through my art has remained constant, but I now want to reach people through different emotional and conceptual experiences.

Through both my humorous and more introspective work, I hope to create a sense of warmth, understanding, and connection. Whether a viewer encounters one of my paintings with a smile or with a moment of reflection, I want the work to leave them with something to think about and, perhaps, a new way of seeing themselves or the world around them.
