Artist Statement
From contemplative shorelines to deserted homes weathered by time, I create thematic groupings that merge photography with wax, oils, and pastels to augment the ephemeral quality of her imagery. Through the delicate layering of wax and imagery, I seek to capture the essence of fleeting moments, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and find solace in the stillness.
Each piece begins with a photograph mounted to a wood cradle, followed by the application of multiple layers of heated wax. I then manipulate the surface—scoring, scratching, and adding details with oils and pastels—before fusing each layer with a blow torch. This process creates a tactile experience that transcends the boundaries of traditional image-making. The resulting images emphasize simple, minimalistic compositions that evoke a sense of serenity and contemplation, further exemplified by the atmospheric quality of the wax surface.
