Artist Statement

Most of my artmaking includes printmaking, photography, and drawing The prints I have done have been both analog (physical involvement with print medium) and digital (using photographic processes and computer technology). I have veered away from traditional printmaking, where one creates editions of their work, and have focused instead on monoprints, where I exploit the state process changing matrices by adding or subtracting marks from the base matrix, inking differently, combining multiple matrices, so the initial images evolve into variably related images. I appreciate the multiple perspectives one can achieve through altering print processes.

My images often focus on the transitory—the horticultural growth cycles or changing topography. Some of my prints are influenced by centuries-old nature prints, where tactual natural forms are used to make impressions directly into the surface of the matrix. Working in the print studio opens possibilities; it is a problem-solving enterprise --- a place to experiment and, when serendipity ensues, propels me in productive directions.
