Artist Statement

I have always loved art. As a young girl, living in Manhattan, my spirited mother often took me to art museums and encouraged me to be creative; be it in dancing, music, or painting.

At various times in my life, I took painting classes, studied life drawing, did pen and ink doodles, sculpted and played with clay, but it was about fourteen years ago that I seriously began to pursue art after taking what was called a “late bloomers” class in the Berkshires with Phyllis Kornfeld.
Since then, I have rigorously pursued artwork in different mediums and materials.

My first show, “From Nothing to Something: Spirited Visions of a Whimsical World,” was at my then Stockbridge Studio in 2011. This was my first “coming out” and since then I have shown my work at the Lenox Community Center, the Lenox, Sheffield and Stockbridge Libraries, and the Stockbridge Town Hall. More recently I have shown my work at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield as part of the Berkshire Nasty Women Art Exhibition and as part of the Women’s International Day. I had a show a few years ago with artists Eva Schuster and Laura Didyk at the Elusie Gallery in Easthampton, MA. and recently one of my works was chosen for an exhibit at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield, MA.

I have also shown my work a few times at the Broward Art Guild in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Most recently one of my works was chosen for an exhibit in NYC called “Mythos” that was shown in 2022 at the Painting Center in Chelsea, NYC.

I love the whole creative process, the unknown aspect of literally often starting from nothing – no idea, no concept or image before me and just moving my pen or paintbrush to paper and seeing what emerges. It really is the process that excites me.

In the past few years, I have taken online classes at the Arts Student League with Augustine Boyce Cummings, as well as a Zen brush stroke class with Paula Roland. I have also done online classes with Jane Davis.
Most recently I am being mentored online with Augustine Boyce Cummings.
