Artist Statement

Before learning to paint, I was a farmer for several years. Painting and farming use a lot of the same skills. Observation, knowing when to slow down and when to let things flow, the focus on light. Oil painting is tactile too, shifting paint around the canvas rather than soil around the base of a plant. My favorite subjects are from the natural world, source of beauty and decay.
