Artist Statement

I am a book artist. It is my goal to reengage individuals with the magic of books. I accomplish this by bending the traditional view of books and creating one-of-a-kind-experiences. I believe that the book object itself is a work of art as much as the content within, and this is achieved by the structure of the book object speaking to its content. Building books with the content in mind means that the finished book object will have a different way of being interacted with. Thus, my books can be found hung on a wall, displayed on a pedestal, or housed on a shelf, perhaps with pages that can be turned, boxes that need to be opened, or elements that need to be removed in order for the book to function. This encourages viewers to consider what it means for something to be a "book" in the hopes that it will create and broaden the appreciation of books as art.
