Artist Statement

I started drawing because I have always loved looking. Looking at life, people, nature, what happened, what they did, and why. The why is a big part, and drawing brings me closer to the root of any thing. I have to look harder, think and feel harder and understand more of the spirit of what I am drawing. Almost like meditating. Because I believe that the why is mostly invisible, and therefore not found directly into the visible, my work focuses on the symbol behind a scene, the person behind a face, the spiritual truth behind an event. Many people say my work is religious and spiritual in nature, and yet I still feel that it is only the surface, has only the appearance of religion, and that I am not yet getting at the truth behind it. I am still looking for that truth in every new work. I like to work alone, because I feel creating a piece is intimate and an expression of my spiritual aspiration.
