Brandess Holmes

Artist Statement

Brandess Holmes is a visual arts artist based in Virginia. A graduate of ODU, she has her BA in Studio Art with a minor in psychology. She is currently a fellow in the Ruakh Arts Program where she is exploring the intersection of theology and art in Church spaces, while earning a graduate certificate in Worship Arts. Her hope is that as people encounter her work, they would be encountered by the God (Yahweh) who first created us. She has created in mediums such as clay, pastel, pencil, paint, and yarn, and is always open to experimenting with new materials. Her work explores themes of faith, what it means to be black, social justice and mental health.
