Samantha wilde

Artist Statement

Samantha Wilde is a nationally juried freeform fiber artist creating spontaneously, intuitively woven pieces charged with texture, color and a sense of aliveness. Her pieces can be found in homes across the country. She draws from her experiences as a mother, writer, feminist theologian, yoga teacher, and mentor to produce delightfully colorful and intrinsically wild weaving from sustainable, upcycled and landfill-bound fiber and fabric. She roots her work (and life) in upcycling—taking the mess and using it to make something beautiful. She engages materials considered old, outdated, ripped, or landfill bound in the creation of new, useful, visually compelling pieces.

A graduate of Smith College, Yale Divinity School, and the Kripalu School of Yoga, she is mother to six children ranging in age from 2 to 19 years. Her studio is in Hadley, Massachusetts where she has a small fiber farm and uses many different styles of looms to create her work.
