Artist Statement

My artwork is inspired by self-discovery. All of my themes are derived from research, personal experience, and community. My work displaces the prejudiced mindset against African American culture and identity, in turn restoring the true and vulnerable form of the black experience. My varied use of style and technique allows for a complex portrayal of the experiences I've externally and personally perceived. Within my themes, I utilize figure, color theory, and symbolic elements to carry the nature of my subject. I intend for my work to connect with the viewer by encouraging self examination, difficult conversations, and reconstructed viewpoints.
