Artist Statement

In my dance and camera practice, I seek to understand what happens in the in-betweens, in the happening, unfolding, merging and un-merging of a choreographic process between the dancing body and the camera person. I try to utilise the potential of movement of the body in conversation with the camera before and during and after filming and embraces a certain kind of observation and contemplation.

By extending, exploring and extrapolating the the camera, more than just an apparatus, my film practice seeks to understand this relationship between the woman and the machine (camera). I use this as a provocation every time in my practice : How can the camera move away from just a technical device intended to ‘capture’, but move towards how it becomes a performer and extension of the body? While filming dance, the happening, unfolding of a choreographic process like truncation, acceleration, slowing down, staging or manipulating reality, of ‘seeing’ and ’being seen’ through/with/for the camera.
