Artist Statement

I create painted images that show my love of nature and reveal my concern for environmental health. My paintings express my perceptions of organic forms, with their interactive patterns. To accomplish this I have developed meditative techniques that enhance my awareness of nature and objects around me. I visually interpret this contemplation with traditional indirect painting techniques such as varnishing and glazing. This slow painting process allows me to accumulate layers of tone and color and create an evocative atmosphere. In this ethereal space I develop realistic or abstracted images of my subject. My paintings invite observers to engage in their own meditative endeavors about nature, and hopefully influence them to take good care of it.
