Artist Statement

My paintings explore the space between my African heritage and the lived experience of the diaspora. Drawing from cultural symbolism, ornamentation, and posture, I create figures that carry memory rather than likeness, and aim to inspire as those memories carry with them a message about honor, struggle, and passion

Stillness plays a central role in my work. In African traditions, it signals authority and spiritual grounding; in the diaspora, it can read as resistance. I use this tension to question power, visibility, and self-definition.

Through gold, pattern, and rich color, I reference value—both inherited and intrinsic—while asserting presence in the present moment. These paintings are acts of reclamation, rooted in lineage and shaped by becoming.
