Artist Statement

With a framework in conceptual thought, I create stained glass sculptures that blend traditional craftsmanship and contemporary issues. Glass becomes a structural element, allowing me to build multi-dimensional, layered compositions. Hundreds of glass pieces are cut, foiled, and soldered by hand—each piece coming together to create a singular, dynamic form. Though the form itself is sleek and modern, the intricate surface of the stained glass reminds us of humankind's chronicled desire to beautify their living spaces.

At the core of my practice is an intertwining of stained glass craft with the language of public transportation. I try to bring humanity to these spaces that are stigmatized as monotonous and unclean. My work proclaims that the public bus or train is also worthy of reverence and care, and that we need to recognize them as valid places to be and live. Public transportation is not just a means to an end, but rather it’s a space where individuals can create community in an increasingly migratory world. Reimagining architectural elements of public space into ornate sculptures begs us to question our perception of beauty, dwelling, and community; as well as confronting the stigmas we hold around public transit’s connection to class and mobility
