Artist Statement
For over 25 years I have been hand fabricating jewelry. My metals career started shortly after high school during a 7-year stint as a dental technician. Trained to make teeth out of gold, I learned metal-working fundamentals. I was brought back to metalsmithing years later after attending a jewelry workshop. Combined with my previous experience I began serious exploration in metal and jewelry fabrication. Inspiration comes from repetitive shapes in my world – both man made and in nature – as well a 20 years of working in the field of architecture. Images and impressions are transferred to metal using a fusing technique which joins metal by melting opposing surfaces together without the use of solder, then roll printed to add texture. I create compositions with varying shapes of silver and high carat gold which are then used to fabricate each individual piece. And I'm guided by my desire to create jewelry that balances both earthiness and elegance.
