Artist Statement

I’m Ashley McBrayer, the photographer behind Studio McBrayer Photography. I’ve always had an interest in photography, and for years, I captured the world around me with just my cellphone. In 2016, my parents gave me my first DSLR camera, and I immediately fell in love. I taught myself over the following years, developing my voice and style— Until a house fire in 2019 destroyed my home, my equipment and my entire body of work. After taking time away from photography, that passion has resurfaced, stronger than ever. I’m now attending Sierra College, working toward a double major in Environmental Science and Photography.
My work spans portraiture, landscapes, architecture, and macro photography, with a deep appreciation for both color and black and white. Aiming to capture a sense of stillness and emotional clarity that reminds me of classic film photographs. My love for nostalgia and the environment are guiding forces in my artistic process. Through careful attention to light, texture, and form, I aim to create images that feel reflective, still, and timeless, inviting viewers to pause and connect with the beauty in both fleeting and enduring moments.
